Talk about perfect timing. Tennis fever is sweeping the nation thanks to the upcoming International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) competition bringing together some of the biggest names in the tennis world in a first-of-its-kind city-based team tennis.
Tennis fever is also sweeping H&M as their latest store opened in the heart of Makati. Top-ranked tennis player Tomas Berdych was on-hand at the opening to introduce his sportswear collaboration with the famed Swedish clothing brand. “The collaboration started in 2013 when I was approached by them … The collection, I think, was something the tennis world was missing. And I’m glad I can be part of that,” said Berdych, in his interview with PLAYBOY Philippines, “The whole approach with working very closely between me and the design team means that we all need to know each other well; what the needs are for me as a tennis player, by the fitting, by the clothing, by the material. And then creating the design and putting it all together,” he added.
H&M’s sportswear collaboration with Berdych has produced pieces inspired by Samurai culture and fractured mineral formations and incorporated it with the latest technology in active wear. “I love how this collection brings together fashion and technology,” exclaimed Berdych.
With the IPTL holding its first round in the country, we’re definitely looking forward to watching Berdych duke it out with the best in the tennis world as the games kick off this evening. –Lauren Acurantes (Photos by Yukie Sarto)
