Summer is upon us, meaning temperatures are gonna rise through the roof. For some this means going to the beach and partying, for others, this means staying indoors to hide from the sweltering heat. If you’re one of those people who don’t plan on going to the great outdoors this summer, don’t worry as tons of hype movies and TV shows are coming your way this April.
So you better ready your popcorn buckets as April 2019 is filled to the brim with binge-ready series and cinema-worthy movies!
Ultraman (Netflix) – April 1
If you grew up watching Ultraman on free TV during your childhood days, this series will be right up your alley! Netflix will soon stream an original animated Ultraman series. This new Ultraman is 3D animated and features Shinjiro Hayata — the son of the original Ultraman.
Netflix’s Ultraman will follow Shinjiro as he takes up the mantle of Ultraman as a new alien threat arrives on Earth following a period of peace. While we don’t know much about the series aside from those details (we don’t even know how many episodes there will be), we’re definitely expecting great things from the new Ultraman, especially with how promising the trailers look.
One-Punch Man Season 2 – April 2
Another anime series premiering this April is the second season of One-Punch Man. In case you aren’t familiar with the series, One-Punch Man is a shonen anime which follows Saitama, a superhero who can defeat any and every foe with a single punch. While his power is insanely overpowered, the show manages to succeed thanks to its brilliant comedy and subversion of the shonen anime genre.
Unlike the first season (which was animated by Madhouse), One-Punch Man season 2 is made by JC Staff, which lead to a slight change in the show’s visual style. Still, One-Punch Man S2 should provide great action and lots of laughs, especially for fans of action-oriented anime.
Shazam – April 5
DC’s movies may be a bit hit-or-miss, but it’s next upcoming movie promises to be one helluva ride. The next DC flick is Shazam!, and it follows 14-year old Billy Batson who is chosen as the “Champion of Eternity” and is given the power to transform into superpowered adult hero when he utters the worlds “Shazam!”
Shazam! follows in the footsteps of DC’s solo outings such as Wonder Womand and Aquaman in that the film has a more lighthearted and funny tone (especially when compared to the Batman V Superman or Justice League). This approach seems to have worked, especially as the film received great reviews.
Hellboy – April 12
Did you enjoy the previous two Hellboy movies? Well you better mark your calendars on April 12 as we’re getting a new Hellboy film. This new flick is a reboot though, an R-rated reboot at that.
Directed by Neil Marshall (director of select Game of Thrones and Westworld episodes), the new Hellboy movie promises to be a darker and more violent affair, perfect if you wanted a more gritty comic-book adaptation. Plus, it stars the likes of Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and David Harbour as Hellboy himself.
Game of Thrones Season 8 – April 14
Game of Thrones is undoubtedly one of the most (if not the most) popular TV series worldwide today, not to mention it’s also one of the most pirated online. This April, the epic conclusion to the fantasy saga that gripped the world is coming, and it promises to be one hell of an ending!
Season 8 of Game of Thrones will be the shortest to date with only six episodes. Make no mistake though, each episode will be packed with intense action, so much so that the season is set to deliver the biggest battle scene ever. That’s right, it’s even longer than the 40-minute Battle of Helm’s Deep from Lord of the Rings.
Avengers: Endgame – April 26
Avengers: Endgame is easily this year’s most anticipated blockbuster movie. Endgame will not only wrap-up the absolutely epic storyline of last year’s Infinity War, it also signals the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 22-movie strong “Infinity Saga.”
As the conclusion to the first major overarching storyline of the MCU, Endgame will most likely be the last time we’ll see the original Avengers cast together on the screen. While it’ll definitely be an emotional trip, we’re expecting Endgame to be a worthy send-off. Not to mention that we can’t wait to see how the Avengers will deal with having half of all life in the universe be snapped away.
